  Birthday celebrations and customs - Are they for Christians?

  i sent my birthday document (http://thebentinel.com/jw-birthdays.html) to a poster here that is at the very least a jw-sympathizer, if not a full-blown jw.

  the response i got back indicated that my reasoning on it was seriously flawed and essentially any idiot with a passing knowledge of scripture and history can tell that birthdays are not something christians should celebrate.. of course, if you're not a bible-believer or a god-believer, you couldn't care less about pagan origins and all that.

  but let's keep this conversation on the 'appropriate for christians' vein.

  This thread has me wanting a big slice of Birthday cake. My birthday isn't until next month but what the hey, I'm getting it. I'll be careful not to conjure up any demonic spirits while I eat it.

  I haven't read all the pages here so forgive me if I am repeating what has already been noted but;

  Matthew 2:11 - and going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.

  Luke 2: And the angel said to them, "Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which will come to all the people; 11 for to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a babe wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger." 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, 14 "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom he is pleased!"

  Jesus' first birthday party was the biggest in the universe. We really don't know if Jesus had birthdays while growing up, whatever was the Jewish custom, that is what He did. Does anyone know what the Jewish custums were back then?

  Some day I will share what happened to me. The day I discovered that the New World Translation removed the word "grace" from the Bible, well, that was a beautiful day for me too. Learning what grace was. If the Bible is nothing but a set of fairy tales, hundreds/thousands/millions? of unscrupulous people have gone very far to distort it, destroy it, own it, change it, and mistranslate it. Why? Because the real Truth of it is power. It gives power to the powerless, riches to the poor, purpose to the lost.

  if i told you that something bigger is on the horizon than dateline, bbc, cbc, sunday (australia), and all other tv programs which exposed the sexual child abuse cover-up by watchtower in 2002-2003, would you believe me?

  Sunspot; To a degree, discovering that one's faith and trust in anything or & anyone is shattering, no matter what the age.

  I thought of this over the years talking to JWs. For me I found out slowly. I researched Biblical truths in between my book studies. The facts were slowly revealed that I was not being taught truth by the elders wife. It was a smooth transition. No UN, no Internet, just myself and loads of Bibles, Greek dictionaries and Strongs conconcordance. The anger hit and some point when I realized what was lost in my life because of the cult. But it was still smoothed out over time.

  I was talking to a JW outside a grocery store this year and walked up to him and said "haven't you heard the news? Bethel doesn't believe this stuff (pointing to his table full of WTBTS books devoid of even one Bible) I then told him about the UN and explained it all. Told him how to verify it and what the elders would tell him. I ran in the store to find my mom. He was obviously shaken and was packed up and gone within 15 minutes. I looked into his eyes as he was leaving and there was a haunted look in his eyes. I felt kinda bad. I still worry about him and hope he is ok.

  So yeah I worry about it. Pain is easier to take when spread out. ~Kate

  Received a letter from an Elder

  i was gone for a few days and when i came back today, i found a letter in my mailbox.. basically it's a friendly letter asking me to come back to the congregation.

  in his letter he says, i tried to contact you often but couldn't.

  i know it's not easy trying to be a witness when no one in your family is a witness.

  Since you are not a mindless slave yet you still qualify for Love Bombing. If you are in the mood to stir things up when the Big News gets here you can enclose the information in your response letter. "Please help me understand this new information"

  I'm going to be very loving and not go neener neenner neener..though it will be my natural inclination.

  12:35 I'm watching Fox news. They are at the scene, so far no word. Says "Execution Process is Underway". One protestor hit a Fox camera man over the head a few minutes ago. Found out that it is easy to get nominated for a Nobel peace prize..ok he is dead 12:37..

  If everyone--of the thousands of people, from all over the world, who so far have viewed this thread--each compiled a similar email list, we would be certain our emails really would be like scorpions, inflicting massive pain and suffering on Watchtower! And don't they deserve it?

  Lets not forget all our local churches. Mainstream churches have been battling the cults/WTBTS with us. I plan on handing out info packs, stapled pages whatever we get to work with, out to place in church foyers, and will be contacting the pastors to make announcments.

  six...five...what must he be thinking....is he afraid..or at peace..remorsful ..or indignant...four...seems like he could earn his keep, why don't they make inmates work to pay their board like with the liscence plate makers...two minutes..it is not painful the lethal injection.   What would be a good business to replace the Kingdom Hall?

  i know i'm jumping the gun here but...with the big news coming there may be some for sale signs in front of kingdom halls in the future.

  the kingdom hall near me is at a busy intersection and a prime location for another business.

  i think a yoga studio would be perfect there.
